Shannon Vicario, DVM

EXPERIENCE IN THE VETERINARY FIELD: has been a veterinarian for 10 years and has worked in veterinary clinics for 20 years
 

Dr. Shannon Vicario grew up in Syracuse, NY where she started working in veterinary clinics when she turned 16. From that moment she knew where her heart belonged. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a minor in Studio Art from Binghamton University in 2007. She graduated from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012. She has always been interested in exotic animal medicine and furthered her education during an international wildlife course in Honduras, as well as externships in California and Connecticut that focused on exotic pet medicine and surgery.

Dr. Vicario worked as a small animal/exotic pet veterinarian and was the veterinarian and member of the board of directors for the New York State Zoo at Thompson Park for 4 years before moving to Texas in 2016. She worked in North Richland Hills for six years before coming to VO Vets as a veterinarian focusing on high quality small animal and exotic animal medicine, preventative medicine, surgery and dentistry.

HOBBIES OUTSIDE OF WORK: She is a fan of the Dave Matthew’s Band, The Office, taking care of her pets and plants, gardening, building vivariums, art, traveling to new places, cooking/and eating and learning new things.

PETS: Dr. Vicario lives with a myriad of pets, plants and her boyfriend Chris who brought her to Texas in the first place. She has 3 rescue dogs- Nimbus is a tripod Maltipoo who was found in the middle of a highway, Winnie is a terrier mix who was a stray hit by a car and Toby Flenderson is a diabetic Rat Terrier mix with Diabetes. She also has 2 parrots (Dakota and Jade), a Russian tortoise (Annie), and many different species of frogs and fish.

CERTIFICATIONS: Licensed Cosmetologist, who also went to school for Marine Biology.
 

HOBBIES OUTSIDE OF WORK: She loves Country Concerts and is a Huge Fan of Harry Potter, Marvel, Disney, and Star Wars.

EXPERIENCE IN THE VETERINARY FIELD:
 

HOBBIES OUTSIDE OF WORK: She loves cycling (indoor and outdoor), and reading fiction and lifestyle books.  She also enjoys a variety a musical pursuits, including playing the piano and violin, and singing.  She is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, obtaining the rank of Captain during her four years of active duty service.

PETS: Garfield, Oliver and Simon are three orange tabby cats that keep Elizabeth on her toes.  She adopted Garfield during her military service while stationed in Okinawa, Japan.  Oliver hails from her hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and she found Simon in Amarillo, Texas while visiting family that used to live there.  “The boys” aka “the three musketeers” love to snuggle, cackle at the birds, and get into mischief together.
